Mention someone in a post

When you mention someone in a post you are referring to them directly. This could be to ask them a question or get their attention. Mentions also happen automatically when you Reply to a post.

Anyone who is mentioned in a post will get an automatic notification on their own server to say a post has their name in it.

Mentioning someone does NOT restrict the post. You need to check the visibility to change who can see it. If you mention someone in a public post, everyone can still see the post.

When Replying, think about the audience; does everyone who was initially mentioned in the original post still need to see your reply? Delete people as required.

There are two ways to mention.

Type the persons full fediverse id; this includes their server name. The mention will start with @

Example: @bumble@ibe.social is the full id of a user with the ID bumble on the ibe.social fedivere server

As you type, Firefish will offer suggestions of people you have interacted with recently. Keep typing, or select from the list. If the person does not appear in the list simply complete their full ID.

Alternatively:

Click on the 'mention' button 1

You can start to type in the user or the host and Firefish will start to filter and show people you have interacted with recently.
