Antennas
Antennas are rules you create to follow Hashtags on the fediverse. In addition, you can follow based on words and phrases, not just tags.
This is a great way to collect posts on topics you are interested in, even if you do not follow the person.
To create or edit your Antennas, click on the 'spaceship' icon on the left hand tool bar, or the same icon at the top right of your Timelines.
You also go into Antennas to look at your lists of posts which meet the rules.
Options
Source: What range of posts are we searching against?
- All post – Every post your server has seen.
- Posts from Specific User – provide a list of usernames.
- Posts from All users on a server – list server your are only interested in following content from
Include Replies: By default, the Antenna will only search on posts, but toggling this setting will include replies
Keywords to listen to / Exclude: Any hashtag, or word, or words which will trigger this antenna if found on the post. See below for more details.
Case Sensitive: by default the case of the word is not important. 'photo' is the same as 'PHOTO'. If you wish to be specific, toggle this setting
Only Posts with Files: If toggled on, the antenna will only trigger if it has at least one file attachment.
Notify about new posts: You need to go into your Antenna to see a list of posts it has found. If you toggle this option on, you will hear a subtle notification sound when the Antenna triggers. Under Antenna icon you will also have a small flashing blue dot on the specific Antenna.
More about Keywords
Keywords usually provide the core rules for your Antenna. They are a combinations of words plus AND and OR conditions. Let's use some examples:
I am interested in Football posts. My Keyword to listen:
#Football
This will trigger the Antenna if the hashtag #football appears in a post.
However, some people may forget to use the tag. My Keyword to listen:
#Football
Football
This will trigger the Antenna if the hashtag #football appears in a post OR the word football. Notice it is on two separate lines. This is a OR condition.
I am interested in European Law. My Keywords to listen:
European Law
This is on one line, so the post must have both words to trigger the antenna. However, this will trigger even when the words are not together on the post. If I want to ensure European Law exactly:
“European Law”
Notice the use of the quotes
What about pictures of cats?
Cat
#cat
#CatPhotos
Also toggle the 'Only Posts with Files'
Tip You can also use the quotes to be very specific in your search. For example, if I enter bee I will get posts with the word 'bee', but also 'been' and 'beer'. So use quotes and a space:
