Creating a New post

Pixelfed only allows posts which contain at least one image. You can not post a text only note.

Click on the “Create New Post” button when sitting on the home screen, or any timeline. If you do not see the button, click your profile on the top right of the page and select the option to Create.

You will see….

Select the “New Post” option. You will also be shown the file formats your server will accept, and how many images you can attach to a single post.

You will then be given the option to select your first photo from your computer/mobile device to add to the post. Once selected you can add more.

Post Options

The Caption is the text that will appear below the photo(s) with the post. The length of the text will be limited, in this case to 1,000 characters. Your own server may vary. In the caption you can include hashtags, and web links. The caption is for the entire post, not each photo.

Alt Text is optional, but strongly encouraged. It is text describing the photo to assist visually impaired viewers. Read more about Alt Text tips.

NSFW Media. Slide the button if your image is Sensitive or 'Not Safe for Work'. This could include nudity, or other images, which may offend some people. If they read your post they will need to click a button to show the images.

Use Tag people if you wish to mention someone as part of the post. They will be notified when you publish the post, and everyone will see they have been tagged.

Add license gives you the option to set a license for your photos. Informing viewers how/if they can use/copy your images.

Add location will allow you to search for, and set an area where the photo was taken. This could be a country or a region.

Audience sets who can see your post. Public allows anyone to see it, and it is attached to your profile if someone browses your account. Unlisted is similar to Public but does not appear on your profile. Followers Only will only show it to everyone who follows you. They can not then Share the post wider.

Contained within Advanced Settings is an option to turn off commenting. This will stop anyone from adding comments to the post.

At the top left of the Post Options, click the left arrow to go back. This gives you options to add additional photos using the + button, crop the image, or apply some basic filters.

Click Next to go back to the Photo Options screen

When you are ready to publish the post, click 'Post' on the top right of the Options screen.
