Creating a New Post

To create a new post in firefish, look for the Pencil icon. Depending on the size of your screen it will be on the bottom left, in an Orange icon, or bottom right as a subtle black and white box.

Click will give this box to type a new post:

Start typing your post in 1. As you are typing, the character count will reduce, shown at 2. You can include hashtags and mentions as your type, and also type/paste website addresses.

If you are happy with what you have typed, click the Post button 3 and your post will immediately be posted on your server, and further afield depending on your post visibility settings.

If you are unable to click the Post button, check your count 2 – this must be 0 or above. A minus number means you have exceeded the maximum size allowed on your server.

Clicking the X 4 will cancel the post and close the window, returning you to your Timeline. If you close the post, it will remember what you have typed; when you start a new post it will show the contents you had already type. This is handy if you need to go and refer to another post, before finalising your own content for posting.

Clicking on 5 will give you a preview of how your post will look to your readers. The preview appears below the current window. This feature is useful if you are using the rich text options to enhance your post.

Click and hold your mouse button on the diagonal lines 6 and drag the pointer to extend the size of your typing window. Useful if you are typing a longer post and you need to see more of the text.

There are several advanced features to add additional content, and control your posts visibility.

• 7 By default, yours posts are Public, however you can decide the Visibility of each post.
  
  
• 8 Attach files, for example photos, to be included in your post.
  
  
• 9 Create a poll as part of your post.
  
  
• 10 The Hide content features will place some of your post behind a warning. Users must click to read more. Useful for controversial or sensitive post content where you wish to warn people first.
  
  
• 11 Mention other people in your post.
  
  
• 12 Add hashtags to your post. You can type your own, or pick from a list of recently used tags. You can also type hashtags directly in the post without using this button.
  
  
• 13 Click to pick from a list of emojis to include in your post. As well as standard emojis, your server admin may have added custom emojis. If you pick a custom emoji, it will still be visible to others on different servers.
