Rich Text Formatting
In addition to typing simple text on your post or reply, Iceshrimp has additional features to enhance your text and therefore your viewer's experience.
For example, making some text bold for a heading, or to emphasise something.
In Iceshrimp, this is referred to as MFM. It is markup language, which uses symbols or rules to define formatting.
If you make use of the Rich Text features they will be visible to other Iceshrimp users across the fediverse. It is also supported by Misskey, Sharkey and Akkoma servers.
Some server types, for example Mastodon, do not currently support this, however their users will still receive and be able to view the post, but in plain text.
Tip Using the Post preview feature will let you see how the content will look once posted.
Examples of rich text
Bold text is enclosed within two sets of **. Therefore, if you typed: **Today's tips** it would appear as Today's tips
If you wish to quote some text, use the > and a space in your post. Example:
She said: > Why do we want to do this I did not know what to say
Would result in:
She said:
Why do we want to do this
I did not know what to say
There is a full list of formatting features, some of which can't be shown easily on this wiki. You can animate text, resize it, change the colour, make it sparkle!
